Mini update!

So I've had a little play with a bloodletter test model this week, I'm fairly happy with it, considering I have 40 of the buggers to do. Haven't played around with the sword yet. I want my herald's sword to be the most impressive/notable so playing around with ideas first.

As for basing ideas, I intend to go for a rocky grey wasteland with snow. For the Bloodletters I have some scenic bases I nabbed from ebay last year for these guys, so will need to transfer them before basing. The bases form a chaos star when in horde formation, so I was thinking of making those crevices pools of blood, rather than the lava everyone else seems to do.

I've also touched up the new daemonette scheme. I like it... definately the colours I wanted more than the darker purple shades from the tutorials. Debating on giving her blue eyes back like in the previous model. Need to practise some smaller brush strokes first though! She is like my own personal little goth queen! =)

Going to paint up some more goth girlies before moving onto other models in order to practise my painting. Tzeentch based models I am going for a blue/green blend... which will be the flamers and LoC. Although I dislike the LoC model and wish I had gotten Kairos to represent him instead! However, if the rumours are true and us daemon players are to get the updates, I will hold out and see. If anything the LoC model will serve for good practise!

I say this every post, but I really need to sort out my camera and set up. My cruddy mobile phone pictures really do the models no justice at all! =(

Test Models

So I have had a little play around with my schemes for some furies and also daemonettes (again!) this week. I have a couple of images, the camera is terrible, I really need to take them with our proper camera and lightbox lol. Sorry in advance! Once the baby's room is sorted then I can set up a hobby space again... I think! =D

So the fury... I am fairly happy with this so far. There's still some minor highlights to sort out, but I wanted them to be Khorne influenced, but different to the bloodletters (of which I intend to paint the original scheme). So red corsets with bronze metallic parts. This was an experiment with washes to start with, it's more purple than I would have liked, and the crimson was too pinky! We'll see. =)

The daemonette is far from finished. I need to shade her hair, give her some eyes and work out what I want to do armour wise. Perhaps the pink/black/silver scheme will work. Right now though I feel it lacks something in a big way. I wanted these pale, more like the website models, rather than the GW guide. Although I think the previous has been photoshopped enough to bring out the colour better, let alone the fact they are painted professionally! ;)

In this picture, you can see my old scheme, whilst she looks sinister, it isn't what I wanted. Too dark and dull.

I'm having troubles with the new paints too. When highlighting my paints seem to dry very fast on the model, causing it to look chalky, instead of smooth. I am using a wet pallet, but this doesn't seem to help. I'm wondering if the Lahmain Medium will work. I'm really not sure. :(

Happy New Year!

Whilst I don't usually make resolutions, I do however want to get my daemon army finally painted, so I guess this is some sort of resolution after all!

2012 was an eventful year for me. I found a full time job in London working as a retail based art worker. It was an avenue that I hadn't experienced before, and I must admit, it was hard. Then in May I discovered that I was expecting my first child!

I haven't had the easiest of pregnancies (and if it were not for my friends flawless pregnancy I would question if any of them ever are) so between working, commuting for over an hour each way, feeling icky ... my hobbies took a back seat for most of the year.

Thankfully I am now on maternity leave (a little earlier than expected!) so I have some free time before the baby arrives in order to paint and get my skills back up to scratch. I don't expect to finish it all of course, but I am determined to get the majority done. Hopefully when she arrives and the hectic first weeks are starting to calm, I'll be able to continue. Ańa The Painting Mum just shows me that I can have children and keep up this hobby ;)

I think I will make one tiny promise to myself however. I need to stop over complicating paint schemes and just bloody paint lol. I think I have put myself off one too many times by wanting to try something different! Not ideal for a newbie painter.

I hope everyone else had a good festive period and saw the New Year in the way they wanted to. And all the very best for 2013!

Sarah/Hula =)
